Zambonga City councilor suspended for grave misconduct

/ 01:11 PM June 07, 2014

ZAMBOANGA CITY – City Councilor Josephine Pareja was slapped with a six-month suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman in Mindanao for grave misconduct.

The suspension stemmed from Pareja’s alleged meddling in the conflict between the Parent-Teacher Association of the Talisayan National High School and principal, Ronilo Martinez, when she was village chair in 2011.

In his complaint before the Ombudsman, Martinez said Pareja had prevented him from entering the school during a PTA meeting – which tackled the principal’s alleged anomalies – in 2011.

Commenting on the suit, Pareja said her act was in response to the request of the PTA that Martinez should be locked out while the meeting was going on.

But the Ombudsman said it should have not been the case because there was no court order to prevent Martinez from entering the school’s premises.

Pareja said her lawyer had already filed a motion contesting the Ombudsman’s decision.
