Centro Escolar University in Mendiola, Manila, was established on June 3, 1907, by Doña Librada Avelino and Doña Carmen de Luna. Originally called the Centro Escolar de Señoritas, the College of Pharmacy opened in 1921, followed by the College of Liberal Arts, College of Education and College of Dentistry. Three years later, the College of Optometry was established. At present, the university has over 50 academic programs and three campuses in Manila, Makati and Bulacan.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
