Wife of kidney patient asks for financial aid

MANILA, Philippines—Joel Cruz was working hard as an office messenger to support his family of five when he was diagnosed with end stage renal disease two years ago.

His wife, Maria Margarita, said that because of Joel’s condition, he was forced to resign.

All of his separation pay for 10 years of service was spent on hemodialysis although up to now, he still suffers from high blood pressure, body weakness and constant vomiting.

“I am appealing for compassion from your readers to help us defray his medical expenses. I am at a loss right now as to how my two children can continue their schooling this coming school year,” Margarita said.

She added that she was glad that her sister has been paying for the college education of the couple’s eldest child.
