Bomb found in Cagayan de Oro-bound bus

Alert passengers of a bus bound for Cagayan de Oro City foiled what could be a bloody Holy Week in Sultan Kudarat province when they informed authorities of a bomb they found in the vehicle.

Superintendent Junny Buenacosa, Tacurong police chief, said the passengers of the Rural Bus Transit bus noticed a cardboard box left by suspected extortionists inside the bus. The conductor threw the box to a vacant lot near the terminal, which was then teeming with passengers.

Army and police bomb experts inspected the box and found a mobile-device triggered improvised explosive fashioned out of a 60-millimeter mortar shell, Buenacosa said. The bomb was disposed of safely, he said.
