MANILA, Philippines—An aborted three-month fetus was found Tuesday outside the restroom of the Our Lady of Mercy Parish in  Barangay Sta. Monica in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Senior Police Officer 1 Rommel Tiangco  of the Quezon City Police’ Novaliches station, said the fetus, placed in a small transparent plastic bag, was found around 5 a.m. Tuesday by security guard Virgilio Guevarra, who was then making his rounds at the church.

Tiangco said that when Guevarra looked inside an anteroom of the toilet, he noticed a plastic bag on the floor with something inside. On closer inspection, the case investigator said, the security guard realized it contained a fetus and immediately reported his find to the police.

He said it was not possible to determine the fetus’ gender because it had not fully developed when it was aborted.

The investigation to determine who was responsible for the abortion and the disposal of the fetus was turned over to the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, he said.
