Palma gets advice for CBCP post
“The only advice I can give is ‘do not be afraid,’” said Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, former president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), to Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.
Lagdameo was asked at a press conference yesterday if he had any advice for Palma, who will succeed Archbishop Nereo P. Odchimar of Tandag, Surigao del Sur, as CBCP president this December. Lagdameo was president of the CBCP from 2005 to 2010.
Palma smiled and thanked Lagdameo for the “timely message.” “He has a lot of experience on this matter, I’m very grateful for it,” he said.
Palma said the advice is timely due to the Church’s ongoing campaign against the Reproductive Health Bill, which is being deliberated in Congress.
Lagdameo was a critic of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who questioned her administration’s policies like the anti-terror law and the Human Security Act. Reporter Candeze R. Mongaya
