Victorino Mapa, in whose honor a street in Sta. Mesa, Manila, was named after, was born on Feb. 25, 1855. Mapa was first appointed associate justice of the Supreme Court in 1901. He was named chief justice in 1920 by US President William McKinley, the second Filipino to be appointed to the post. He died on April 12, 1927. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
