Man holds 5 kids, nephew hostage after spat with wife, then surrenders

MANILA, Philippines — A man longing for his wife surrendered to the police after he took his five children and one nephew as hostage for four hours in his home in Caloocan City on Sunday evening.

The Caloocan Police identified the suspect as Emmanuel Palasol, a 30-year-old helper living in Block 109, Barangay (village) 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Palasol held hostage his five kids, all minors, aged 12, 10, seven, six and three, and his three-year-old nephew at their house at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigation showed that Palasol got home drunk that night, drew a kitchen knife, and held hostage the kids. Neighbors heard the commotion in the house and reported to the police.

When the police arrived, Palasol demanded that they bring his wife, Emely, to their house so he could talk to her after the two reportedly had a fight and the woman left their home.

Two hours later, Emely arrived and started to talk to his husband, which led to the release of the children.

After another hour, the suspect himself surrendered, requested that he be handcuffed by the police. He also turned over the knife he used to hold the kids hostage.
