MANILA, Philippines – A former Armed Forces chief of staff turned lawmaker feared that the failure to implement the provisions of the Bangsamoro peace pact would result in war.

Muntinlupa City Representative Rodolfo Biazon said at a news forum Thursday that this is the reason the Bangsamoro organic law that would implement the peace pact provisions should be enacted.

“If everything fails, there’s only one alternative. That is war. What else?” he said.

Biazon added that there is “no alternative to peace except war.”

“That is the reason the people must work together,” he said.
Congress is rife with talks on crafting the Bangsamoro organic law that would create the Bangsamoro entity to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The law would be the result of the sealed peace pact between the Philippine government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that sought to end the decades-long Muslim secessionist movement in Mindanao.

Biazon said he filed a resolution last year that would create an ad hoc committee to fast track the passage of the law.

He added that the ad hoc would be composed of chairpersons and vice chairpersons of different committees. This would ensure that the law would not be passed from one committee to another, Biazon said.
