5 fishermen rescued off Davao Oriental

MATI CITY, Philippines—Five fishermen from Surigao del Sur were rescued off the coastal village of  Licod in Baganga, Davao Oriental, according to Governor Corazon Malanyaon.
The fishermen’s boatr capsized when battered by big waves. They drifted to Baganga.

It was not clear why the victims were out at sea despite warnings issued by the weather bureau.

Malanyaon said coastal villagers have already evacuated to higher grounds in preparation for the arrival of Tropical Depression Agaton.

As of Saturday noon, weather was fair in Davao Oriental.

“It’s sunny here,” Malanyaon told the Inquirer by phone.
