Cop killed in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – A policeman was gunned down while his wife was injured when a motorcycle-riding gunman shot them in Buenavista, Quezon, on Friday afternoon, police said Saturday.

The victim, Police Officer 3 Mario Adricula, 48, who was assigned to the Regional Headquarter Support Group- at the Philippine National Police regional office in Canlubang, Laguna, died of several gunshot wounds in the body, said PO2 Eduardo Lirio Oronan, Buenavista police investigator.

Adricula was on his motorcycle with his wife after attending a court hearing  in the town of San Nicolas when a motorcycle bearing two men cut in front of them in the village of  Hagonghong at around 1 p.m. One of the men alighted and fired at the Adricula couple, Oronan said in his report on the shooting.

Adricula, who wore a crash helmet, was hit in different parts of the body and died on the spot. Mariafe was hit on her left arm, Oronan said.

He said the gunman fled with the policeman’s service firearm, a 9-millimeter pistol with serial number N53366Z – and a magazine of bullets.
