WOMAN STABBED BY NEIGHBOR IN LAPU-LAPU

A 36-YEAR-OLD woman was critically wounded after she was stabbed by her female neighbor in barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City.

Lovella Delera sustained two stab wounds in the abdomen.

Police conducted a follow-up operation after the incident but the suspect identified only as a certain Mylene could no longer be found in her house.

The suspect’s live-in partner, Johnny Aton, was also not around, police said.

Police said the two women had an argument a few days ago during which the suspect allegedly threatened to kill the victim.

After the argument, neighbors noticed that the suspect always had a knife in her possession.

The suspect made good her threat and waylaid the victim as past 3 a.m. yesterday.

Neighbors heard the victim shouting for help and later found her slumped on the ground bleeding from her wounds, police said.

MAN NABBED IN OLANGO DRUG BUST

A 29-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by police in a drug buy-bust operation yesterday dawn in barangay San Vicente off Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police seized five sachets of suspected shabu from Noel Caramonte, a resident of barangay Talima in Olango.

The suspect is detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office headquarters pending the filing of charges against him.

Police said the P200 cash used in the operation was also recovered from the suspect’s possession.

Caramonte denied involvement in illegal drug trade saying that he was just doing a friend a favor by handing over the illegal drugs to an unnamed person./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA

WOMAN ROBBED ON HER WAY TO WORK

A 21-YEAR-OLD woman was robbed at knife-point by a man in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday dawn.

Nikki Davis Camello, a worker at MEPZ, related to the authorities that while she was walking on her way to work, a man appeared and pointed a knife at her.

Camello said the man took her bag containing a cellphone, identification cards and an undetermined amount of cash.

POLICE STEP UP SECURITY AHEAD OF NEW YEAR REVELRY

MANILA—Police tightened security measures and increased police presence in bus terminals, sea and air ports as the New Year’s Day celebration draws closer.

Senior Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac, Philippine National Police spokesperson, said yesterday in a radio interview, that the PNP is on heightened alert and police marshals are deployed in Metro Manila.

“The PNP continues to intensify its security operations as well as the Police Integrated Patrol System for this coming New Year celebration,” he said.

The PIPS, according to the PNP, enhances crime prevention and solution through the implementation of high police presence, anti-criminality and police security operations, campaign against motorcycle-riding criminals, and other police interventions.

At port terminals, the PNP Maritime Group inspects bags and luggage for banned firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and illegal firearms.

Last December 4, PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima announced that policemen will not have their Christmas break unlike in the previous years.

Sindac said policemen in all areas will render duties “as if it is an ordinary working day of law enforcement” as part of PNP’s “Yuletide 2013” drive./Inquirer
