2 village officials killed in Masbate

MANILA, Philippines — Two village officials were shot and killed by suspects riding in tandem in Masbate Wednesday evening, police said Thursday.

Barangay (village) chairman Jose Pepito, 45, and barangay treasurer Perlito de Leon, 26, were killed by still unidentified assailants at around 1:30 p.m. along the National Highway of Barangay Tuburan, Cawayan town, said Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

The suspects immediately fled towards Barangay Palobandera of the same town onboard a blue TM STX Yamaha motorcycle  with unknown plate number.

Cruz said that Cawayan and Masbate police were conducting an investigation into the incident to identify and locate the suspects.
