KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – Six detainees, including a minor, escaped from a police jail here before dawn Sunday after sawing off the iron grills on a window in their cell, police said Monday.

Supt. Leo Ajero said the inmates inside cell No. 3 climbed out through the window after cutting their way through with a saw.

“We found traces of used oil which we believed was used in order not to create noise while they were cutting the grills,” Ajero said.

He could not explain, however, how an iron saw found its way to the supposedly tightly guarded jail.

Ajero said he had ordered an investigation into the escape.

A manhunt has been organized and Mayor Joseph Evangelista warned relatives of the escapees against coddling them, which is a crime.
