DILG should investigate Mayor Binay, says Senator Alan Cayetano
MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) should investigate the incident involving Makati Mayor “Junjun” Binay Jr., said Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday.
“DILG should investigate the incident involving Mayor Junjun who ordered the arrest of three security guards in Dasmariñas Village in Makati,” Cayetano said.
However, he said, Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II can inhibit from the investigation and let the Department of Justice (DOJ) conduct the probe to avoid political color.
“We cannot just go away with this. This is a public incident and not a private one,” he said noting that the Binays are using their power too much.
The DILG, he said, can investigate even without the complaint from the security guards.

“If Binay’s security force knew that there was imminent threat, they should have gotten away from the place to ensure the safety of their chief,” Cayetano said.
However, the Mayor’s security camp cock their gun provoking tension between the security guards, he said.
“You will not cock your gun if you are not ready to kill because you cannot demand courtesy with a gun. The security guards were just doing their job,” he said.
According to him, violence is not the solution.
He also refuted the argument that the Mayor can go in any corner of the city whenever he wants to because he is the chief executive.
“It’s a private property,” he said.
He recommended that the Mayor should file a leave for 15 days and the Makati Chief of police should be relived from his post until the investigation is done.
The convoy of Mayor Binay was prevented by the guards on duty from passing through a gate of the exclusive Dasmariñas Village close to midnight of November 30.
Three of the guards manning the gate were “invited” by the Makati City police in the nearest precinct for “clarification”. They were released after a couple of hours.
The Binays were lambasted in social media, accusing them of being arrogant and drunk with power.
