10 Ceres buses suspended for 30 day

09:59 AM December 17, 2013

A 30-day suspension was ordered on the operation of the Ceres bus in the Badian crash and nine others covered  in its franchise pending investigation.
The erring bus driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and if it’s proven that he was drunk, his license may be revoked.
Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Cuizon also issued a show-cause order against Vallacar Transit, the franchise holder, to explain why their franchise should not be canceled.  The hearing is set for this afternoon.
The suspension covers 10 Ceres buses covered by franchise number 080631 which are plying the Cebu City- Guihulngan, Negros Oriental route.
Cuizon said he can’t suspend the whole Ceres bus fleet because it would adversely affect the riding public during Christmas, which is  peak season.
All Ceres buses will be checked for road worthiness  and their drivers will undergo a safety seminar, drug test and alcohol test through the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
An official of the bus company in Cebu City office promised to cooperate and voluntarily freeze operations of the remaining nine buses, said Cuizon.
Since the accident involved deaths, LTO 7 Regional Director Arnel Tancinco said  the driver’s license of Gerson can be suspended for 90 days.
And it it’s proven that the driver was drunk, his license may be revoked.
Under a new law against drunk driving, Republic Act 10586, in Section 12(2), an offender’s professional driver’s license shall be confiscated and perpetually revoked for the first conviction.  This will disqualify the person from being granted any driver’s license.
