PB supports holding Bar exams in Cebu
THE Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has approved a resolution asking the Supreme Court to allow the holding of the annual Bar examinations in Cebu City and other regional centers in the country.
A resolution filed by PB Member Peter John Calderon noted the inconvenience experienced by bar candidates living outside Metro Manila. He said they have to take unpaid leaves from work in order to take the exams.
“The bar candidates from the province who will be in Manila cannot fully concentrate on their preparation for the bar examinations most especially when someone gets sick,” Calderon said.
A number of Cebu judges and law school deans also expressed hopes that the SC would hold the annual bar examinations outside Manila for law graduates based in Visayas and Mindanao.
The Cebu City Council also had the similar request earlier which was later endorsed by the High Court to the Committee on Bar Examinations.
The Bar examinations is held in Manila in September and was first administered in 1903 with Cebuano Sergio Osmeña Sr. placing second with a 95.66 percent grade. Correspondent Peter L. Romanillos
