Alphans Run for Yolanda slated Dec.15 in Ayala
AFTER its successful inaugural run last August, the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority is set to hold another running event dubbed Alphans Run For Yolanda Victims on Dec. 15 starting at The Terraces area of the Ayala Center Cebu.
The run last August attracted 1,200 runners as it aimed to help the fraternity’s underprivileged scholars.
This time, the group hopes to raise funds to help the rebuilding process of the ravaged city of Tacloban after it was hit by supertyphoon Yolanda last Nov. 8.
“We would like to respond to their needs just like what we did when the earthquake hit Bohol,” Alpha Sigma Phi Visayas director Engineer Antonio Camelo Tompar said during yesterday’s launching at the City Sports Club. “We have to work together so that our fellow Filipinos can stand up again.”
Around 200 families from Tacloban City and some from Maya town in northern Cebu will benefit from this fund-raising running event that will feature 3-kilometer, 6k and 12k distances.
Tompar said the group plans to give constuction materials to the survivors of the storm. “Maybe it’s time to send construction materials instead of relief goods so that they can already start to rebuild their houses,” Tompar said.
