Roxas airs concern over ‘No-Build Zone’ order
MANILA, Philippines—Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II has contradicted President Benigno Aquino III’s “No-Build Zone” order in coastal areas, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM on Monday said.
Aquino issued the order more than two weeks after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name Haiyan) devastated several areas in Leyte and Samar. Coastal villages bore the brunt of Yolanda’s fury.
Roxas insisted that the “No-Build Zone” will affect many fishermen.
Roxas made the statement after the Senate budget deliberation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Roxas said the provinces of Leyte and Samar are coastal areas where fishing is the primary source of livelihood.
