Car salesman dead in QC robbery

A car salesman was killed and robbed at a Quezon City gas station before dawn Saturday.

The police identified the victim as Mark Matthew Alvarez, 27, a resident of Marcos Avenue, Barangay North Fairview, and a sales executive of Mitsubishi Motors-North Fairview.

Alvarez died on the spot after the attack around 3 a.m. Saturday at a Petron station at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Atherton Street in the same barangay (village).

Inspector Elmer Monsalve, homicide section chief of the Quezon City Police District, said the victim was shot several times in the head before he was robbed by two male assailants. Recovered from the crime scene were three .45-caliber and three 9-millimeter bullet casings, and six bullet slugs.

According to a taxi driver who witnessed the shooting, the victim was first seen arriving at the gas station on a motorcycle, then having a conversation with an unidentified man. Minutes later, he was seen running away barefoot, this time with two men chasing him.

Shot several times, Alvarez fell to the ground. One of the men then took a pouch from the victim and, together with his partner, drove off on the victim’s red Honda Scoopy, which was still up for registration.

The police later learned from the victim’s relatives that the stolen pouch contained cash and four cell phones.
