Local squads triumph in 6th Cebu 10’s Rugby

The Cebu Dragons men and women’s teams ruled their respective divisions yesterday and captured this year’s centerpiece crowns in the Sixth Annual Cebu 10’s Rugby Festival played at the Cebu International School (CIS).

The Cebu Lady Dragons trounced the visiting Seoul Sisters of Korea, 17-0, in their finals duel late yesterday afternoon to capture the Cebu International Ladies Invitation crown while the men’s team routed the towering Manila Nomads, 14-5, to clinch the Dragon’s Balls title.

Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea’s Paradise Hunters made a rousing debut in the tournament by topping the Dragon’s Claws Division after crushing the Trellenborg Pingvins, 7-0.

Myanmar’s Yangon Dragons blanked the Singapore Kiwi, 20-0, to win the Dragon’s Tail division while the Beijing Aardvarks of China crushed the Maritime Academy of Asia Pacific (MAAP) Warriors, 10-0, in the Dragon’s Fart category.

In the Dragons Cup division, three time defending champion Alabang Eagles of Manila upset the heavily favored Christ Church High School Old Boys Assassins of New Zealand, 28-0.

The CHSOB Assassins are touted as the tournament’s favorites since most of their players are members of the New Zealand national team training pool.

Overall, the tournament which was participated by six foreign teams and 14 local squads ended its successful run yesterday with most of the visiting teams promising to come back next year to compete.
