‘Zoraida’ makes landfall in Davao Oriental

MANILA, Philippines—With the Philippines still reeling from the devastation caused by the Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan), the state weather bureau on Tuesday morning said tropical depression “Zoraida” made landfall in Davao Oriental.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed 30 areas, mostly in Mindanao, under Storm Signal No. 1.
“Zoraida” made landfall in Davao Oriental, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, Pagasa said.
Moving northwest at 30 kilometers per hour (kph) and centered 91 kilometers northeast of Davao, tropical depression “Zoraida” is expected to reach 110 kilometers south southwest of Cuyo Islands in Palawan by Wednesday morning.
On Thursday morning, it is forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility.

“Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides. Sea travel is risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon,” Pagasa said.
