Shootings leave 3 men dead in Quezon City

Gun-wielding motorcycle riders barged into a house in two separate incidents in Quezon City on Saturday, leaving three men dead.

Killed in the shooting incidents which took place at least six hours apart were Jesus Tayamora, 66, and his neighbor 54-year-old Eduardo Garate, both of Barangay (village) Sta. Monica in Novaliches; and 59-year-old Reynaldo Bardinas of Barangay Gulod, Novaliches.

All three men died instantly from multiple bullet wounds in the head and body while the gunmen immediately escaped.

According to reports from the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, the first incident happened shortly past noon Saturday just outside Garate’s house on Masayahin-Sarmiento Extension in Barangay Sta. Monica.

Case investigator PO2 Julius Cesar Balbuena said that immediately before the attack, Garate and Tayamora were talking at the gate about an upcoming cock derby.

Garate’s wife, Daisy, who was in the living room watching TV with other relatives, told the police that she suddenly heard gunfire. When she ran to the door to look for the source of the noise, she saw her badly wounded husband crawling on the ground and being shot by a man who casually walked away afterward. The other victim, Tayamora, lay dead just outside the house.

The gunman and two other cohorts who acted as lookouts were later spotted escaping on a motorcycle.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered six casings from .45-cal. and 9mm pistols from the site.

Over six hours later, two motorcycle riders, one armed with an automatic rifle and the other with a pistol, barged into the house of Bardinas on Nitang Avenue, Barangay Gulod and shot him to death.

Case investigator SPO1 Joselito Gagaza said that the incident happened at 6:45 p.m. Saturday while Bardinas and his wife, Lorna, were talking inside their home.

Gagaza added that two armed men wearing ski masks suddenly forced open the door to the couple’s home and repeatedly shot Bardinas who was instantly killed. The two men then escaped on a motorcycle.

Police probers said they found at least four casings for .45-cal. and .30-cal. firearms near the victim’s body.
