Aliens Cebu team wins in Safeguard-2XU 21K race in Taguig

ALIENS Cebu, composed of Mary Joy Tabal, multi-awarded triathlete coach John Philip Dueñas, Tessie Escasinas, Zinky Logarta and Angelo Cadungog emerged the fastest team in 21K category of the Safeguard-2XU Sole Racing International Marathon yesterday at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

The team had an average time of 1:41.57 in the 21k race to win and earn round-trip domestic tickets with hotel accommodation and free registration for January’s Safeguard Cebu Marathon.

Tabal was the best performer in the 21K race as she finished second in the women’s open division with a time of one hour, 23 minutes and 48 seconds.

Kenya’s Margaret Njuguna won the women’s open race as she clocked 1:21.41. Kenyan Susan Jemutai clocked 1:28.40 to finish behind Tabal.

FEATURED STORIES

Cebuana long distance runners Escasinas (2:05:35) and Logarta (2:13:17) emerged the fastest in the 55 to 59 years old and 45 to 49 years old divisions, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kenyans ruled the men’s open division of the 21k race. Jackson Chirchir clocked 1:07.40 to finish first followed by Elliud Kering at second place with a time of 1:08.20 and Benjamin Kepkazi at third with a time of 1:09.36.

Erinio Raquin topped the men’s 21k local category with a time of 1:12:11 while Janet Agura lorded over the 21k distaff side with a time of 1:33.12. /Correspondent Dale G. Rosal
