Marina suspends grounded vessel in Oslob

THE regional office of the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has revoked the safety certificate of cargo vessel MV Anna Jinky that ran aground in waters off Oslob town since Monday evening.

Marina legal officer Jose Cabatingan said the cargo vessel won’t be allowed to sail unless it passes inspection.

“They won’t be given clearance to sail until and after the inspection of our ship safety engineers),” Cabatingan said.

The cargo vessel which was carrying 10,517 bags of fertilizers, ran aground in the waters of Bonbon, Oslob on Monday evening while traveling from Isabel Leyte to Dipolog City.

The vessel was still stuck as of yesterday.

Philippine Coast Guard Cebu station commander Weniel Azcuna said a tugboat has arrived at 5 p.m yesterday to tow the freighter. “They’re just waiting for the high tide to pass tonight and they will try to pull out the cargo vessel,” Azcuna said.

Azcuna said the Coast Guard will inspect the hull to see if the cargo vessel can continue with its voyage. He said no corals were damaged in the accident.

Azcuna said ship captain Ricky Amario already submitted his marine protest on the accident. Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
