Caloocan mayor reports on projects after 100 days in office

MANILA, Philippines—The new mayor of Caloocan City celebrated his 100th day in office by touting his administration’s achievements and plans so far in a speech Tuesday afternoon.

In his State of the City Address, Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan claimed that the city government has started a number of ambitious projects during the first 100 days of his term.

His 35-minute speech, which was followed by a lavish banquet at the University of the East-Caloocan’s auditorium along Samson Road, was divided into six parts, showcasing programs in education, health and social services, crime prevention, infrastructure spending, business and investment opportunities, and good governance.

Malapitan reported on how the city government had allocated funds for the construction of additional classrooms in the University of Caloocan City’s campuses in North and South Caloocan, and for the construction of school buildings for several elementary schools in the city.

In healthcare and social services, he said that the city’s free consultations and check ups would continue, and that the city has been upgrading its hospitals to better serve the people.

For crime prevention, Malapitan reported on the Caloocan police’s efforts to catch peddlers of illegal drugs. He said patrols around the Bonifacio Monument have been intensified to increase security and remove the area from the Philippine National Police’s top five crime hotspots.

Malapitan also promised to draw up more infrastructure projects in the city, including the construction of more school buildings, public markets and roads.

He also pledged to entice more businesses in the city, which he claimed left during the previous administration.  He vowed to allow businesses to grow in the city.

Finally, Malapitan pledged to efficiently spend the city government’s funds for the good of the people.
