Muslims gather in Manila to mark end of Ramadan

MANILA, Philippines — Muslims gathered at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila Tuesday to celebrate the end of Ramadan, a 990 AM report said.

Around 20,000 Muslims from different parts of the country joined the “Eid’l Fitr”, the report said.

Imam Council of the Philippines Chairman Aleem Said Ahmad Bashir was quoted in the report as saying that his message (Khutba) will be about peace, change and reconciliation.

Bashir also said that around 20 percent of followers were from other religious affiliations before, the report said.

During the Ramadan, Muslims abstain during the day from food, drink, smoking and sex to focus on spirituality.

The start of Ramadan is based on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the beginning of the Muslim lunar month that varies between 29 and 30 days.
