Free rides for senior citizens at LRT, MRT train on Saturday

MANILA, Philippines—Senior citizens riding the trains on Saturday, October 5, will not have to fall in long lines to purchase a ticket.

Lines 1 and 2 of Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT line 3) will accommodate senior citizen passengers on Saturday for free from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. in light of the Annual Elderly Filipino Week.

In the official Twitter account of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), it said: “@officialLRTA: Free rides for Senior Citizens on October 5, 2013 from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. in connection with the celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week.”

The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC)’s MRT posted on its Twitter (@dotcmrt-3): “In the celebration of the Annual Elderly Filipino Week, DOTC-MRT3 will provide FREE WHOLE DAY RIDE for all Senior Citizens on October 5, 2013.”

“Just present your OSCA issued ID and log your names with the security guard assigned at the service gate in exchange of a boarding pass,” the MRT announcement said.

Meanwhile, on October 6, Sunday, participants of the Run for Pasig River can enjoy free rides in the MRT from 5:30 a.m. until 9:00 am.

They will only have to present their race bib.

The MRT runs along Edsa from Taft Avenue in Pasay City to North Avenue in Quezon City. LRT Line 1, on the other hand, stretches from Baclaran, Parañaque City, to Balintawak, Quezon City, while LRT Line 2 takes passengers from Recto Avenue in Manila to Santolan, Marikina City.
