NPA rebel killed, 5 soldiers hurt in Davao Oriental clash

MANILA, Philippines — One communist rebel was killed while five soldiers were injured in a clash in Davao Oriental early Tuesday.

Troops from the Army’s 67th Infantry Battalion encountered about 25 members of New People’s Army in Aliwagwag village in Cateel town at about 2a.m., said Army’s 10th Infantry Division spokesman Captain Raul Villegas.

The soldiers were deployed Monday night after receiving reports on NPA threats there.

The encounter lasted for 30 minutes.

One NPA rebel was killed while the five soldiers were wounded from bomb detonated by the insurgents.

The soldiers were brought to the hospital for treatment, while the NPA rebel was turned over to a funeral parlor, Villegas said. Frances Mangosing
