Red Cross’ Marathon for Humanity set
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Lapu-Lapu/Cordova chapter will stage its first marathon event in Cebu dubbed Red Cross 143: Marathon For Humanity this Nov. 10 starting at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
Organizers are expecting a huge number of participants so they’ve come up with a unique plan to make the race safer for them—start it at the stroke of midnight.
The frontrunners of the race said during a press launch last Monday night at the Be Resorts Mactan that they decided to start at midnight since the volume of vehicles on the streets is lesser during this time. This means runners on the road will not have to worry a lot about getting hit by vehicles.
The race will feature 42-kilometer, 21k, 6k, 3k and 500-meter dash for kids. Proceeds of this event will be used to support PRC Lapu-Lapu/Cordova’s ambulance operations, disaster-preparedness programs, among others.
“We want everyone to join our cause through this running event so that in times of need, we will be more than prepared,” said PRC Lapu-Lapu/Cordova administrator Vicjay Gonzal. “We want also to strengthen our campaign in our volunteer service program in the barangay level through this running event. We are hoping that we will attract new recruits and members of our chapter.”
Gonzal was joined by Lapu-lapu City Police Office Director Rey Lidon Lawas, who also serves as the Board of Director in PRC Lapu-Lapu/Cordova Chapter ‘s committee in security , Teodulo Ybañez, race director Joel Juarez and MEZ representative Rosario Canillo.
The running event is considered as an official activity for the celebration of the feast of Our Lady of the Rule on November.
Registration fee is pegged at P1,000 for the 42k, P700 for the 21k, P300 for the non-student rate in the 6k, 3k and 500m distances and P200 for the student rate. A specially designed medal and finisher’s shirt also awaits finishers in the 42k and 21k race. Registration can be done at the RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu, PRC Lapu-Lapu/Cordova Chapter office along R. Dela Cerna St. in Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City and at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall.
