DEFENDING champion University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) and last year’s first runner up University of San Carlos (USC) fought to a scoreless draw in the tertiary football competition of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

With the stalemate, USC continues to lead the season with 10 points while USJ-R trails the Warriors at the second spot with eight points.

Earlier in the day, the University of the Visayas (UV) handed Don Bosco College (DBC) its fourth loss this season with a 6-1 victory.

The GreenBooters scored its first three goals in the first half courtesy of Ian Veloso (10th), Michael Gomora (21st) and Rey Maglasang Sanchez (39th). Contributing goals in the second half for UV were Christian Pongasi (53rd), Christopher Cabarrubias (65th) and Andrew Villamor (85th).

DBC’s lone goal was scored by Ramon Calungsod in the 48th minute.

The University of Cebu (UC), meanwhile, posted its second win via a 6-0 thrashing of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).

In the lone secondary match, the junior USPF football team fared better than its senior team with a 10-0 demolition of USC anchored on the hattrick of Charles Bayot in the 5th, 37th and 62 minutes.
