Senate suspends work due to bad weather

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Franklin Drilon on Monday suspended work in the Senate due to tropical storm “Maring.”

Drilon made the announcement shortly after Malacanang suspended work in all government offices in Metro Manila due to intermittent rains.

“To all Senate employees: Work today is suspended due to bad weather. I hope everyone will stay indoors and be safe,” the Senate President said over Twitter.

Work had also been suspended in the House of Representatives because of Quezon City Day, House public relations and information bureau executive director Bernadette dela Cuesta said.

Malacanang also suspended classes in all levels for Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has earlier re-issued a red rainfall alert in Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon as it expected severe flooding due to heavy to intense rains in the next few hours.
