Portion of Mandaluyong City flooded, impassable to light vehicles

MANILA, Philippines— Intermittent rains flooded a portion of Mandaluyong City and rendered it impassable to light vehicles, but traffic in most parts of Metro Manila remained normal early Sunday evening, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.

Bobot Balbaboco of MMDA-Flood Control Unit said they recorded 18 to 20 inches of floodwaters in Maysilo, Bonifacio Avenue in Mandaluyong City around 5 p.m., making the road impassable to small vehicles. The Mandaluyong city hall is located near Maysilo Street.

“But so far, there hasn’t been reports of flooding in flood-prone areas in the cities of Makati, Manila, Quezon City, Malabon, Navotas, and San Juan,” he said.

Balbaboco said a team from their department was sent to Mandaluyong  to pump out the floodwaters. They have yet to receive an update about the situation, he added.

As for the traffic situation, the MMDA received reports of traffic-build up  on the northbound lane of Edsa-Taft but the rest of Edsa was fast moving, Fe Carinan of MMDA-Metrobase said.
