DRUG ANGLE EYED IN HIPODROMO ATTACK

POLICE are eyeing illegal drug activities as a motive in the fatal shooting of a mechanic in barangay Hipodromo, Cebu City last Tuesday afternoon.

Wilber Arcipe died around 3 a.m. yesterday at the Cebu City Medical Center. The victim suffered gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Arcipe was repairing the motorcycle of Romula Molina when he was shot.

Molina, the victim’s live-in partner Maria Concepcion Gonzales, 43, and his two-year-old grandson were also injured after they were hit by stray bullets.

SPO1 Jay Yballe, chief investigator of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) , said they have already identified the assailant after the incident was captured by a security camera of a nearby establishment.

Yballe refused to reveal more details about the assailant’s identity to avoid hampering operations to arrest him.

Police said the assailant didn’t cover his face during the attack.

GUN RAID IN DANAO

POLICE on Sunday arrested an unlicensed gunsmith and seized gun-making equipment in a buy-bust operation in barangay Suba, Danao City, northern Cebu.

Manuel Toñacao was arrested by the Regional Special Operation Group (RSOG) after he allegedly sold gun barrels for P2,000 to a poseur-buyer.

Police then seized several equipment such as lathe machines, a metal grinder, a welding machine and a bench drill. Gun barrels and cylinders were also seized.
