Landslide hits Benguet village, kills man

MANILA, Philippines – A man died in a landslide in Benguet that was triggered by rains spawned by typhoon “Labuyo” (international name Utor), police said.

Jomar Salicong, 22, was declogging a canal at about 8 a.m. Monday in Kabuyao Poblacion village in Tuba town when he was caught in the landslip, according to Superintendent Davy Vicente Lim-mong, spokesman of Cordillera regional police.

Salicong was rushed to Benguet General Hospital by his companions but he died during treatment.

The fatality in Benguet was confirmed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and listed him as “Labuyo’s” first casualty.
