Woman gives birth in LRT station, reports say

MANILA, Philippines—A 25-year-old woman gave birth at a station of the Light Rail Transit Authority in Manila early Wednesday, the public rail transit spokesman said.

Lea Lubiano delivered a baby boy at LRT’s Blumentritt station around 9:40 a.m., Attorney Hernando Cabrera told INQUIRER.net.

“The mother was on her way out of the station and was at the train platform when she delivered her baby,” Cabrera said earlier said.

Lubiano, who was with her husband, was assisted by Red Cross volunteers Michaela San Luis and Solicitor Mercado.

“It seems like the couple didn’t really anticipate that the woman will deliver her baby today,” the spokesman said.

Red Cross volunteers are deployed in every LRT station as part of railway’s existing agreement with charity group, Cabrera noted.

Aside from Red Cross volunteers, LRT has its own medical team, Cabrera said.

Even the security guards are trained to provide first aid treatment,he said.

“They are trained, capable and equipped,” Cabrera said.

Lubiano and her newborn boy were brought to the Tondo General Hospital.
