Man wounded in third San Juan shooting in a week
MANILA, Philippines—“Not me, not me,” Jose Luis Martinez was heard pleading before he was shot in the back while waiting for a taxi in San Juan City on Friday morning, police said. It was the third such shooting on San Juan’s streets in a week.
As in the previous shooting incidents, the assailants managed to flee on a motorcycle despite the police checkpoints set up in key places in the Manila suburb.
P02 Eduardo Cabalo said Martinez, 47, a personal assistant of TV game show host Willie Revillame, was shot in the back by two unidentified men who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle around 8 a.m. Martinez was waiting for a taxi on P. Guevarra Road in Barangay Little Baguio when the assailants arrived.
Cabalo said the two men demanded Martinez’s cell phone, but he refused to give it to them and ran away. The assailants then fired at him and fled in the direction of Shaw Boulevard.
According to witnesses in the area, the victim was saying, “Not me, not me” before he was shot.
Martinez was taken to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, where he was undergoing treatment for at least two gunshot wounds in the back.
