1 dead, 21 hurt in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY — A driver of a passenger bus was killed and 21 others were injured when two vehicles collided head-on in Atimonan, Quezon Wednesday morning, police said.

Citing initial investigation, Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, Quezon police chief, said a Fuso Mitsubishi truck (RJT 746) driven by one Marcelino Martin was negotiating a curved portion of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Malinao Ilaya at 6:50 a.m. when it collided with an incoming CUL Transport bus (HVP 754).

Carlos said the CUL driver whose identity was still being verified by the investigators died on the spot after he was pinned down inside the wreck.

Police said rescuers rushed the 21 injured bus passengers to a hospital in Atimonan.
