Goldberry shocks defending champion Cebu Landmasters

THE GOLDBERRY Suites dished out a cold dish of vengeance at the start of their campaign in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA)-Mivesa Cup as it thwarted the defending champions and bitter rivals Cebu Landmasters, 68-66, last Sunday at the Magis Eagles gym inside the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.

It was sweet revenge for Goldberry, which lost to the Landmasters in the finals of last season.

Justin Huang led the winners with 24 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Kevin Villamor and Kyle Valmoria each had 15 to pace the Landmasters.

In other games, the RDAK Transporters beat the Milco Fresh Eggs, 60-53, thanks to Ian Ong, who topped the squad with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals.

The newly wed Junie Alejandro also helped the cause with 11 markers.

Milco was led by the 15 points and seven boards of Chad Go.

In other games, Insular Square notched a win as it blew out Alberto’s Pizza, 81-53, San Jose Bakeshop beat the A-Team, 56-49, while Gaisano Capital outlasted the San Remegio Aguilas, 84-70./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
