MAN ARRESTED FOR CUTTING COCONUT TREES

A 44-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for illegally cutting coconut trees in barangay Bateria, Daanbantayan town, northern Cebu.

Nilo Ancaja, a 44-year-old resident of barangay Lapas, Bogo City, was still holding a chainsaw when arrested by police Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Ancaja had three companions but they eluded arrest.

Ancaja told police they were hired by the lot owner to cut the trees.

WOMAN FOUND DEAD AT HOME

A WOMAN was found dead inside her house in barangay Magdugo, Toledo City, southwest of Cebu.

Analiza Baclaan, 30, had a hack wound in the forehead when her body was discovered by her sister-in-law Linda Alperes Baclaan, past 7 a.m. Thursday.

Linda told police that she saw Analiza’s three-year-old daughter walking outside their house and asked where her mother was.

Linda said she noticed that the girl was acting unusual and seemed to be afraid of someone.

Linda rushed inside the house and found Analiza bathed in her own blood, said SPO1 Jemelon Cutmaya, desk officer of Toledo police station.

Police sad the woman’s husband is working in Cebu City.

MAN DIES IN LAPU SHOOTING

A 30-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a shooting incident in barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Benjie Tampus suffered gunshot wounds in the chest and left arm. He was declared dead at the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

The victim’s wife, Grace, told police that Benjie was hit by stray bullets fired by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Grace said she and her husband went to a store to buy bottles of beer.

Three motorcycles each boarded by two men arrived.

The wife said the backriders fired shots at two men drinking in the store but missed and hit her husband instead.

HABAL DRIVER SHOT IN CEBU CITY

A 30-YEAR-OLD habal-habal driver was shot and wounded by his passenger in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Marlou Guardiario, a native of Moalboal town, Cebu, was wounded in the face.

Police said Guardiario said the assailant asked the victim to take him to barangay Kalunasan.

While they were travelling, the passenger pointed a gun at the driver and said: “motor ray tuyo nako (I only want your motorcycle).”

Police said passenger shot the victim then drove off with the motorcycle, leaving the victim behind.
