MANILA, Philippines–No one else has expressed interest in the Senate presidency, said Senator Franklin Drilon, who is the only name being floated for the post.

“Yes, I confirm that no one has expressed interest in the Senate presidency post from among my colleagues,” Drilon said during a regular forum at the Senate on Thursday.

“But nevertheless, I will wait until July 22 before making any formal announcement on the Senate presidency,” he said.

So when asked about reports that Senator Ralph Recto would be elected Senate Pro Tempore, Drilon said: “Let it remain that way. It came out in the media…I would not want any news to be coming from myself.”

The senator declined to answer questions on the issue so as not to preempt the elections of the next Senate leadership.

Asked again if the new organization in the Senate is already final, Drilon said: “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.”
