National barangay hoop Cebu eliminations on Sept. 18

BASKETBALL players from all levels, aged 25-under, will get to showcase their talents in the Handy Fix Super League National Barangay Championships, which will kick off next month at the Capital Parish gym along Escario Street.

The nationwide competition will have the Cebu City phase on Sept. 18 with a total of 24 slots up for grabs for barangays from the north and south districts of Cebu. The event was launched by league commissioner, Darren Evangelista during the weekly SCOOP Forum yesterday at the Baseline Restaurant.

Players from all levels of basketball are allowed to play provided that they are aged 25 years and below. The move was made so by organizers to give participants opportunities to showcase their skills in the hopes of giving them a shot at the professional and semi-pro leagues.

The winners in the city eliminations will get to compete in the regional championships, which will be on Nov. 5 and 6 in their respective regions. The winners there will move on to the national finals, which will be staged here in Cebu on Nov. 12 and 13.

The champions team will bag P25,000 while the runner-up will get P15,000. The other runners-up will go home with P10,000 and P5,000, respectively. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
