Cepca to hold U-16 rapid chess tourney this weekend at SM Cebu

AFTER the highly successful Engr. Blas Hipulan and Deep Blue Chess Tournament held over the weekend at SM City Cebu, another top level wood pushing tournament will be staged at the Deep Blue Cafe this coming weekend which will showcase the best junior chess players in Cebu.

Dubbed the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association CEPCA) Under 16 Rapid Chess Tournament, the event offers qualifying slots for the Cebu City delegation for the Batang Pinoy National Finals slated later this year.

Last weekend’s Engr. Blas Hipulan Tournament saw Davao City’s International Master (IM) Oliver Dimakiling capturing the P40,000 champion’s purse for going undefeated in the nine-round rapid Swiss system tournament sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

The juniors Under-16 event will follow the seven-round Swiss system format with 25 minutes and five seconds increment time awarded to each player. The tournament will be handled by FIDE Arbiter Marvin Ruelan

FEATURED STORIES

Cash prizes and trophies will be given to the top five placers of the event both in the male and female divisions courtesy of CEPCA members.

The registration fee is pegged at P100 per player and will be opened on the day of the tournament. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
