Man killed, 2 hurt in accidents

A man was dead while two others were injured in three separate road accidents involving motorcycles on Sunday.

Nicolas Campus Kong, 44, died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a 10-wheeler truck at past 3 p.m. Sunday in barangay Sabang, Sibonga.

Police said that the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions with the truck heading for Cebu while Kong was heading for Sibonga from Carcar City when he suddenly lost control  and swerved into the opposite lane and slammed head on into the truck.

The truck driver tried to evade the motorcycle but to no avail. The victim died while being rushed to the hospital.

Hours earlier, another motorcycle crashed into a mini-bus in Dawis Sur, Carmen town, injuring the motorcycle driver, Ervin Galing-Galing of barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.

Investigation showed that both vehicles were traveling on opposite directions when the motorcycle suddenly swerved and collided with the truck.

Galing-Galing survived the accident but he sustained head and body injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment.

At 3 a.m., Yancy Formentera, 18, was driving a motorcycle when her motorcycle was rammed by a Toyota Hi-Ace van driven by Alquin Toquero along the national highway in barangay Poblacion.

Police said both were heading on the same direction when Formentera suddenly swerved to the left. Toquero didn’t notice and hit her motorcycle.

Toquero fled after the accident. Formentera was brought  by residents to the hospital for treatment of her body injuries./Correspondent Joy Cherry Quito
