/ 11:36 PM June 30, 2013

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and other elected officials of the locality took their oath of office Sunday with the reelected local chief executive vowing to make the city a premier tourist and economic hub.

In his inaugural speech, Bautista said he would propose amendments to the local revenue code, which he hoped the city council will prioritize.

“If we expect foreign investments in Quezon City, we have to make our level of taxation competitive. The city government shall make doing business with and in Quezon City more efficient,” he said.

He added that studies have been made to streamline systems and processes to support, regulate and service potential business ventures in the city, saying, “Transparency and consistency in the application of laws and policies are necessary if we expect new businesses and fresh investments to pour into Quezon City.”

Likewise, the mayor said that the city would establish sister cities in Europe not only at the cultural but more on the economic level. “We have gone beyond introducing our city. It is time that we have an engagement with them as a destination for tourism, business and employment,” he explained.—Jeannette I. Andrade
