Modern sports complex soon to rise at PMA

MANILA, Philippines – A modern sports complex will soon be constructed at the Philippine Military Academy in Fort del Pilar, Baguio City.

In an invitation for bidding released by Assistant Secretary Efren Fernandez, chairman of the Department of National Defense Bid and Awards Committee (DND BAC), the DND through the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has allotted P105 million for the project.

“The project must be completed within 300 calendar days from the date of issuance of Notice to Proceed. Bidders should have completed, within 10 years from the date submission and receipt of bids, a contract similar to the project,” the invitation said.

Fernandez said the eligible bidders should have experience and capability in the type of services, and the field under consideration, specifically on the design and construction of a sports complex.

They “must also satisfy the requirements of the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board with Size Range of Large B and License Category of “AAA” in General Building Classification.”

Interested bidders may obtain documents from the DND BAC at Camp Aguinaldo, with a payment of P50,000.

A pre-bid conference will be held on June 18, while the bid opening will be on July 18. Both will be held at Longabayan Hall in Fort del Pilar.

Captain Lynette Flores, spokesperson of the PMA, told reporters Tuesday that the new sports complex will replace Jurado Hall, the existing sports complex.

“Ginagamit natin ito but we are upgrading it [with] basketball court inside, volleyball court. It will be upgraded to be more responsive to the needs of the cadets for physical development,” she said.
