Car rams center island, crashes trisikad; 5 hurt

A 67-year-old woman was seriously injured after a car rammed into the center island, hit an electric post, and crashed into a trisikad along A. Soriano Avenue, barangay Guizo, Mandaue City yesterday dawn.

Elsa Manatad, of barangay Guizo, was aboard the trisikad when the Kia Rio automobile crashed.

Manatad was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center after suffering injuries in her head and body.

Four other persons were injured in the accident. They are Renato Lanoy, 36; Kristel Cuizon, 22, Kevin Oscar, and Dylan Ivor, who were passengers of the car.

Investigation showed that  the trisikad was driven by Lanoy from the Mandaue Public Market heading to Manatad’s house in barangay Guizo.

Manatad earlier bought food from the market and other goods to be sold in her sari-sari store.

The trisikad was traveling along the center island in A. Soriano Avenue, when the Kia Rio with plate number of YJN 823 driven by Cuizon, traveling along the lane where the trisikad was, suddenly rammed the center island, hit a post, and crashed into the trisikad.

The impact caused the electric post to break and fall on the street. Lanoy sustained minor injuries.

Police said Cuizon’s parents already amicably settled with Lanoy and Manatad. The Cuizon’s agreed shoulder the hospital bills of the victims./Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
