Quakes hit off Leyte
MANILA, Philippines—A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck off Leyte at 3:37 p.m. Saturday about five hours after a 5.6-strong tremor hit the area, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The latest quake occurred 121 kilometers northeast of Burgos town in Surigao del Norte at a depth of 55 kilometers.
Earlier at 10:11 a.m., a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit 88 kilometers northeast of Burgos at a shallow depth of two kilometers.
At 2 p.m. a 4.3 quake struck 115 kilometers northeast of Burgos.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates often collide causing seismic and volcanic activity.
