Serendra residents remain in temporary lodging facilities

MANILA, Philippines—Residents of Two Serendra in Bonifacio Global City who were affected by the blast that hit one of the condominium units remained in temporary lodging facilities Tuesday.

In a statement, Jorge Miguel Marco, Ayala Land corporate communications head, said that they are not yet allowing residents to go back to their units in order to ensure the safety of everyone.

Tension gripped the posh condominium in Taguig Friday evening when an explosion occurred at Unit 501B. The blast killed three people working for Abensons appliance store whose delivery truck was crushed by a slab of concrete that flew across the street due to the impact of the explosion.

Marco said residents will be allowed to return to their homes once the proper authorities have given the clearance.

“We extend our condolences to the families of Jeffrey Umali, Marlon Bandiola, and Zallymar Natividad. We have been working together with Abensons to provide the necessary assistance to their respective families including shouldering the funeral and burial expenses. We are also looking into their other concerns,” Marco said.

Several others were wounded, including Angelito San Juan, the occupant of the affected unit.

Aside from San Juan, an unidentified guest of the condominium and a passerby identified as Janine Bonjoc remained at the St. Luke’s Medical Center, while another injured victim, Allan Poole, has been discharged from the hospital.

For her part, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, likewise, extended her condolences to the family of the victims, and offered financial assistance to them.

In a statement released by Taguig’s Public Information Office, it said that Cayetano went to the family of Umali, while Councilor-elect Rommel Tanyag went to Natividad’s family; and Councilor-elect Jimmy Labampa to the family of Bandiola. Financial assistance was extended to them.
