Comelec cancels registrations of 5 partylist groups

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has formally cancelled the registration of several partylist groups Friday, which would mean that their votes would no longer be considered.

The Comelec en banc previously cancelled the registration of Senior Citizens, Cocofed, Abang Lingkod, Binhi, and Anad but they appealed before the Supreme Court seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) so that their votes could be counted.

Comelec, however, cited that “no TRO or preliminary injunction was issued by the SC of their petitions to this date.”

“The Comelec resolves to consider [the previous resolutions] cancelling the registration of Senior Citizens, Cocofed, Abang Linkod, Binhi, and Anad as final and executory,” Comelec said in its resolution Friday.

Senior Citizens managed to get at least 670,000 votes while Abang Lingkod had at least 250,000, Cocofed, 100,000; Binhi had at least 180,000, and Anad had at least 199,000.

Their votes will no longer be included in the final total count of votes for the partylist race.
